FIRST-TIME CHINA GUIDE

A simple planning guide for overseas travelers visiting China.

Most travelers do not need a fixed package at the beginning. They need to understand timing, distance, scenery choices, language support, and realistic pacing. This guide helps you prepare a better trip request.

Great Wall near Beijing for a first-time China travel guide
Xi’an Terracotta Warriors for first-time China planning
Guilin karst scenery for a scenic extension
Shanghai skyline for a modern city finish

How many days do you need?

  • 5–7 days: one region or one classic route
  • 8–10 days: Beijing + Xi’an + Shanghai or one scenic extension
  • 12–15 days: classic cities plus Zhangjiajie, Guilin, Yunnan, or Sichuan

What makes China trips different?

  • High-speed rail is excellent but stations can be large
  • Some top attractions require real-name ticket booking
  • Mountain routes depend heavily on weather and cable car timing
  • Payment, maps, translation, and local apps need preparation

When is the best season?

  • Spring and autumn are easiest for most travelers
  • Summer works for families but can be hot and crowded
  • Winter can be beautiful for Huangshan and northern cities
  • Avoid major Chinese public holidays if possible

What information helps us review your request?

  • Dates or travel month
  • Group size and ages
  • Preferred scenery or cities
  • Budget range per person or total
  • Hotel level and walking comfort
  • Language and guide support needs

Not sure what China looks like beyond Beijing and Shanghai?

Use the scenery and culture atlas to compare karst rivers, sandstone peaks, classical mountains, deserts, highlands, ancient capitals, festivals, and folk customs before choosing a route.

REALISTIC EXPECTATION

China is easy to enjoy when the route is not overloaded.

A common mistake is trying to combine Beijing, Xi’an, Shanghai, Zhangjiajie, Guilin, Chengdu, and Yunnan in one short trip. A better request tells us your must-see places, your total travel days, and your comfort level, so the route can be reviewed before you commit.
